Ambassador’s Welcome Speech

Dear friends,

 

Let me welcome you on behalf of the Embassy of Georgia to the Republic of India.

 

Our embassy is also accredited to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Republic of Maldives and also acts as Georgia’s permanent representation to the ESCAP.

 

I'm honoured to represent Georgia in one of the oldest and largest states in the world my country has long-standing relations with. The fact that Tariel, one of the main characters of our admirable twelfth-century Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli's poem, “The Knight in the Panter’s Skin” is of Indian origin, clearly reflects the centuries-old bond between the two countries.

 

Nowadays, bilateral relations are developing steadily and dynamically. It gives me a special pleasure that thousands of Indian students choose Georgia as their higher education destination. Returning home, they will use the acquired knowledge for the benefit of their homeland and I am confident, cherish and share with others their love for our country.

 

The direct flights between two capitals have brought our countries even closer and will allow many Georgians to discover incredible India while Indians will be able to witness the beauty of our country and the hospitality of our people. As for me, together with my team, will be delighted to make my own contribution to the strengthening our ties and enhancing our friendship.
